It’s the little things that get you down 😓
You’re in the zone with GitHub Copilot. Coffee is steaming. To-dos are falling. You’re crushing it.
Then it happens. You want to hand a coding task to Copilot’s new coding agent — the autonomous dev that writes code, runs tests, and opens pull requests for you.
Suddenly, you’re breaking out of your flow: opening tabs, digging for the right place to delegate, and jotting half-baked notes to yourself.
By the time you’re back in your code, your flow’s gone. 😭
But here’s the kicker: what if you never had to leave the zone in the first place?
This is why we developed the new mission control for Copilot coding agent.
Look for the Open agents panel button in GitHub's top navigation, now located on every page. With the panel, you can delegate tasks and track progress without switching contexts. Choose your AI model, stay in your flow, and unlock serious productivity gains.
Here's what this looks like in practice on my Open Source Friday repository. From this same page, I could delegate tasks like "Add issue templates for bug reports" or "Update dependencies to latest versions" without leaving my current work.

Where does this panel show up? Everywhere you work — and here’s how to open it:
- Any GitHub page: Click Agents in the top navigation
- VS Code: Open the Agents panel from the GitHub Copilot menu
- GitHub Mobile: Tap Agents in the app navigation
- GitHub Issues: Assign Copilot by opening the Agents panel on any issue
Prompt a like a pro ✨
When you’re delegating through the agents panel, the secret to unlocking Copilot’s full power is how you ask. Clear prompts mean faster results and cleaner code.
Here are a few prompts that actually work:
- "Add dark mode toggle to the header component"
- "Fix #425 following the pattern from PR #380"
- "Create unit tests for the authentication module"
And yes, you can run tasks in parallel:
- “Add unit test coverage for utils.go” + “Add unit test coverage for helpers.go”
Copilot figures out the how. You focus on the what.
When you prompt this way, Copilot stops being autocomplete and starts acting like an autonomous teammate. You can hand off full features while you stay focused on architecture decisions and code reviews, without ever breaking your flow. Each task costs just one premium request, so your subscription scales with your output; 300 Pro requests = up to 300 pull requests.
Also, don’t forget, the agents panel can handle multiple tasks at once. Copilot can work on three different repositories simultaneously.

Your flow is precious. The agents panel keeps everything in one place, so you can delegate, track, and ship without breaking stride. Think of it as your own personal command center, with Copilot at the controls. 🕹️
Go forth and code!
